Old-timers with the prayer list will remember that I used to include reports from the San Diego chapter of Helpers of God's Precious Infants, led by our friend, Sue Lopez. Sadly, Sue died from breast cancer but her husband Roger and their children keep up the fight along with many others who pray every week at abortion clinics in San Diego.
Several months ago Roger reported a disturbing development: pro-abortion activists now turn out to dog the steps of the pro-life counselors as they try to speak to women entering Family Planning Associates abortion clinic. They shout down the counselors, telling the women, "You don't have to listen to them!" They create a scary, intimidating environment and very often the women flee into the clinic to get away from the commotion.
Today the Helpers of God's Precious Infants sent out the following email:
Pro-abortion escorts at FPA are increasing in numbers, and are becoming more intense in their efforts to stop our sidewalk counseling. They have been coming out in two shifts, and are well organized. We need more people to have a presence on the sidewalk praying.
If you have not been out to pray for a while, please come out and join us this Saturday to pray for the protection of the unborn between 7:30 am and 11:00 am.
If you live anywhere near San Diego, I urge you to join the prayer warriors at Family Planning Associates on Miramar Road. As for the rest of us: I would like to suggest we pray and fast during this time, asking St. Michael for strength and protection for the counselors--and the defeat of these "deathscorts".
Today's first reading in the Office of Readings is very encouraging for those of us who seem to be in a losing battle against the culture of death. Please take a moment to read how God makes the enemies of the Lord turn against one another and destroy themselves: 2 Chronicles 20.
Our struggle is not against human enemies
but against the principalities and powers, against the evil spirits.
– Stand firm and let the truth be the belt around your waist.
Stand firm, and you will see the Lord coming to deliver you.
– Stand firm and let the truth be the belt around your waist.
A quick update on Joseph Stanton: according to Terri, his mother, your prayers were definitely felt yesterday and everything went well. Will let you know when any results from the MRIs are known.
