Advent Preparations / Prayer Request

Sorry, everyone, there's always something I miss these days (that's why I need a break). Didn't mean to send the post with "Ann Marie RIP" on it! But if it helps you remember to pray for her soul and her family, then that's good.

First, a new prayer request:

MJD
Pittsfield, MA
Please pray for my father, Sam, who is in ICU after complications with knee replacement surgery last week.

Also, this is a followup, but I don't want to take the time to look up the original request: Mother Mary Clare, OSB, in Petersham, MA has been moved into hospice care. Please pray that she has a happy and holy death. (She was my Mother Superior when I was a Benedictine postulant long, long ago.)

I will be sending a new novena this year, starting in a few days, in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe. If you're in the novena group, you'll get daily mailings. I'll also post the prayer(s) on the blog for those who are not in the group.

Would like to alert everyone to a free offering from Ascension Press: Jeff Cavins giving meditations on the Sunday readings. You can sign up here: Encountering the Word.

Re-posting these photos for the new members of the prayer list--and will also post on our Facebook page in case you'd like to share with your friends. I'd really like this idea to spread--and it's sure not going to spread in my Baptist/Non-denominational neighborhood! (Did you know that Birmingham is only 2% Catholic--and the most Protestant city in the United States?)

I just got these decorations up in the nick of time--in time for the Vigil of the First Sunday of Advent.

For the mailbox. Came up with this simply because I couldn't find a house flag/banner with an Advent wreath on it. Tried to design my own outdoor banner, gave up, and then came up with this idea. If anyone wants instructions, I'll post them on the blog. I add a candle each Sunday.

 For our four windows:

New for this year, I crocheted this banner for the front door (so that the neighbors would have a clue what that thing on the mailbox is). Just wish I had used a brighter purple.

I thought the previous one a bit too childish--but it stood out against the black door.
